# Fax test

> Send a test fax over a phone line to a Faxbeep test number and check how it arrived.

Send a fax to one of the test numbers from a fax machine, a copier with a fax line, or an online fax service. Faxbeep displays the pages it receives on [faxbeep.com](https://faxbeep.com). It doesn't send a fax back.

## Test numbers

Each fax number is also a test email address. Use the digits of the international number, without the `+`, followed by `@faxbeep.com`.

Dial the number in the "Dial locally" or "International" column. You can call any of the numbers from any country. The test is free, but your phone provider may charge for the call.

## How to send a test fax

**1. Prepare a test page**

Use a black and white page with some text and an image, and no personal or confidential information.

**2. Dial a test number and send**

Send the page to a test number the same way you send any other fax.

**3. Find your result**

Open [faxbeep.com](https://faxbeep.com). Your fax usually appears at the top of the results within a minute after the call ends. The list updates automatically. See [The live grid](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/results/live-grid.md).

**4. Check the result**

Open your fax. Check that the pages are upright and readable, that the page count is right, and that the sender ID your machine printed at the top of the page is correct. See [The fax page](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/results/fax-page.md).

## What you can send

## What the result shows

* While a fax is arriving, the label above the results changes to "Incoming fax...".
* The result is titled "Fax from" followed by the masked sender. See [How sender details are displayed](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/results/sender.md).
* The sender ID that your machine prints at the top of the page is part of the image, so Faxbeep doesn't mask it.
* If Faxbeep receives the fax but can't process it, the fax page says "This fax could not be processed. Please try sending again."

## If the call fails

Faxbeep only displays a fax it has received, so a failed call leaves nothing on faxbeep.com: no result and no message. Check your machine's transmission report, then see [My fax does not appear](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/troubleshooting/fax-does-not-appear.md).
