# Limits

> Faxbeep's public limits: email tests per hour, email size, pages, file types, retention, and removal link expiry.

The email frequency, size, and page limits apply to email tests: [scan to email](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/tests/scan-to-email.md) and [Internet Fax](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/tests/internet-fax.md). The retention and removal limits apply to every test.

| Email tests per sender | 60 per hour from one sender address |
| Email size | 7 MB for the whole email. Email encoding adds about a third, so the attachment can be about 5 MB |
| Pages per attachment | 20 |
| Public availability | 30 days |
| Removal link expiry | 4 hours |

## Email test rules

| Rule | Value |
| - | - |
| File types | TIFF, PDF, or JPEG. Faxbeep checks the file content, not the file name. |
| Attachments per email | One. If you send more, Faxbeep uses one of them. |
| Password-protected PDFs | Not accepted |
| Color | Accepted, and displayed in color |

Faxes sent over a phone line must be black and white. Color faxes aren't supported.

## What happens when a test exceeds a limit

| Limit | What happens |
| - | - |
| Email tests per hour | Faxbeep rejects every email from your address after the first 60. An email rejected for its attachment still counts. Wait up to an hour. |
| Email size | Faxbeep rejects the email. Use a lower resolution, fewer pages, or black and white. |
| Pages per attachment | Faxbeep rejects the email. Send fewer pages. |
| File type | Faxbeep rejects the email. Set the scan file format to PDF, TIFF, or JPEG. |
| More than one attachment | Faxbeep uses one attachment, choosing a PDF or TIFF before a JPEG. If your machine creates one JPEG per page, set the format to PDF or TIFF. |
| Public availability | Faxbeep removes the test, and its page shows a removal message. See [Public for 30 days](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/privacy/public-for-30-days.md). |
| Removal link expiry | The link stops working. Submit a new removal request. See [Remove a fax](https://faxbeep.mintlify.site/privacy/remove-a-fax.md). |
